Hand over the company credit card, Eleanor, and clean out your desk by five

“Before I hand anything over,” I said quietly, “I think the room deserves some context.” I slid a navy folder down the table. Vivian’s smile thinned. “That’s the trust amendment Dad signed at Mercy General on October 9th, two weeks before he passed. His attorney, Mr. Halvorsen, is on speakerphone right now.” A calm voice filled the room. “Good afternoon. To confirm — Mr. Bishop transferred his fifty-one percent controlling interest in Bishop Logistics into an irrevocable trust naming Eleanor Bishop as sole trustee and operating principal. Vivian retains a residual income stake only. She holds no voting authority and no hiring power.” Trevor’s coffee cup froze halfway to his mouth. Vivian’s bracelet stopped clicking. “You can’t —” she started. “I already did,” I said. “And while we’re being transparent — Marcus from accounting flagged something six weeks ago.” I nodded at our CFO. He opened the second folder. “Forty-one thousand dollars in personal charges run through a shell vendor called Halcyon Consulting. Steakhouses. A Cabo resort. A Porsche down payment. Authorized by Trevor. Signed off by Vivian.” The room went so quiet I could hear the HVAC. “I spoke with the board this morning,” I continued. “They’ve voted to pursue restitution. Our outside counsel will be in touch by Friday.” Vivian stood up too fast, knocking her chair. “Eleanor, your father would —” “My father,” I said, “left me a letter. He knew exactly who he married. He asked me to be kind, but not foolish.” I turned to Trevor. “Security will walk you out. Leave the company laptop.” Then to Vivian — gentle, the way Dad would have wanted. “The house in Newport is yours for life. That was his wish. But this building, these people, this name on the door — those were mine before you ever met him.” She gathered her purse with shaking hands. At the doorway she paused, waiting for me to soften. I didn’t. I just slid my father’s signet ring back into place, opened my laptop, and called the next agenda item.
